AETHER TOOLBELT — PRIVACY POLICY
Privacy Policy
Last updated October 6, 2026
Aether Toolbelt is built by Aether Tools. It holds three instruments, Leyline, EarthTune and Limen, and works without an account. This policy describes what the app keeps on your device, what it requests from the internet, and what our servers record when it does.
The short version. No account. No analytics. No ads. No tracking. Your readings, sessions, surveys and stamps stay on your device. The app makes network requests to our EarthTune feed at earthtune.aethertools.us, to NOAA SWPC for solar-wind data, and, when you open Leyline’s map, to Apple Maps for map tiles. None of those requests carries a name, email, account, or advertising identifier. Location is used only inside Leyline and is never sent to us.
Information we collect
We do not ask for personal information. Aether Toolbelt has no account system, no login, and no analytics. We never receive your readings, sessions, surveys, locations, or stamps. The only things that leave your device are the requests described below, with the network details every internet request carries.
EarthTune and our observatory feed
Our server downloads public ELF observatory spectrograms, extracts Earth’s Schumann fundamental, and, when available, adds NOAA SWPC space-weather data. While you use EarthTune, the app automatically requests the current reading and recent history from https://earthtune.aethertools.us. These are plain HTTPS requests with a generic app User-Agent. They carry no name, email, account, device, or advertising identifier. EarthTune’s Profile lets you point it at a different feed URL.
Cloudflare. Feed requests pass through Cloudflare, our network and security provider, which receives your IP address and standard request details, such as the URL, time, and User-Agent, in order to route, protect, and deliver the request. Cloudflare handles that data under its own privacy policy. We see only aggregated traffic statistics from Cloudflare.
Our feed server. For each request, the feed server logs the time, the requested path, and the response status. It does not log your IP address or User-Agent. To prevent abuse it keeps your IP address in memory for about two minutes to count requests; it is never written to disk. If our web proxy hits an error while forwarding a request, its error log may record that request, including the forwarded IP address and request headers; we use those entries only to diagnose the fault.
Retention. These logs rotate automatically: the system journal drops its oldest entries at its size limit, and a second copy in the system log is deleted after about five weeks. They are not included in our backups. Because they hold no account or identifier, we cannot pick out your requests to delete them individually; they age out on that schedule.
Limen and NOAA
While Limen is open, the app requests public real-time solar-wind data directly from NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center at services.swpc.noaa.gov. NOAA receives your IP address and standard request details, as with any website, under its own policies. We operate no server for Limen and receive nothing from those requests. Sample mode uses illustrative readings bundled with the app and makes no requests to NOAA.
Leyline, location and the map
Leyline asks for location permission only while in use, and uses your location only while you are surveying or viewing its map, to place magnetometer readings on your trail. Your location is never sent to us. Leyline’s map is drawn with Apple Maps, so viewing it loads map tiles for the area on screen from Apple, under Apple’s privacy policy. Surveys, trails and notes stay on your device unless you export a CSV or GPX file and choose to share it yourself.
Sensors
Leyline reads the phone’s magnetometer to measure the local magnetic field, and EarthTune can show the same reading for comparison. Magnetometer readings are processed on the device and never leave it. Aether Toolbelt does not use the camera, microphone, contacts, photos, HealthKit, or advertising identifiers.
What is stored on your device
The app keeps your settings, EarthTune’s session library, Leyline’s surveys and journal, and Limen’s field stamps and notes in its own storage on your device. None of it is uploaded or synced to us. Deleting the app deletes it.
Purchase
Aether Toolbelt is a paid download from Apple’s App Store. Apple handles the payment and your Apple Account under its own privacy policy, and Aether Tools receives no payment details or personal information. The app has no in-app purchases and no subscription.
Analytics and tracking
None. Aether Toolbelt contains no third-party analytics or advertising SDKs, no advertising identifiers, and no cross-app tracking.
Third parties
Apple distributes and sells the app and serves Leyline’s map tiles under its own privacy policy. Cloudflare carries EarthTune feed traffic as described above. NOAA SWPC serves Limen’s solar-wind data. We do not sell or share personal information, and we hold none to share.
Children
Aether Toolbelt is a general-audience app. It is not directed to children, and it has no accounts or profiles through which personal information could be collected.
Your controls
Location and motion access can be changed in iOS Settings. Delete sessions, surveys or stamps inside each instrument, or delete the app to remove everything. Limen’s sample mode stops its NOAA requests. Clearing EarthTune’s feed URL does not stop its requests; Airplane Mode stops all network requests. There is no account to close.
Changes to this policy
