Requirements
Parallax runs on iPhone with iOS 17 or later. It works offline and needs no account. Triangulation requires a network connection and a second observer who submits the same object.
Frequently asked
Do I need a second phone?
For a full triangulated position, yes — two independent viewpoints of the same object are what resolve its distance and altitude. On your own, Parallax still gives you a calibrated, filtered candidate with a precise bearing.
Why does Parallax want camera and location access?
The camera captures the sky; location, compass, and motion supply the geometry that turns a photo into a measured bearing. Without them the instrument can't be calibrated. See the privacy policy for exactly how each is used.
What counts as a "clean candidate"?
A capture that survives Parallax's rejection passes — known air traffic, satellite passes, and common optical artifacts like lens flare and sensor bloom — is logged as a clean candidate rather than dismissed.
Does my data leave the phone?
Only a capture you explicitly submit for triangulation. Everything else stays on your device.
Deleting your data
Clear individual captures or your whole log from inside the app. Deleting the app removes all of its on-device data.
